How To Remove Pee Stains And Bad Odour From A Mattress

I have two dogs – and I remember how difficult it was for me to train them where to go pee which meant that for quite some time they would pee where they weren’t supposed to – for example, on my bed. This left stains and pretty bad odours that I didn’t want on my mattress – so I had to figure out a way to get rid of both the stains and the odour.

After researching and talking to friends, I came to the conclusion that this wasn’t a difficult task – in fact, I just needed to use a few natural ingredients and both the stain and the smell will be gone!

What You Need?

You have to prepare baking soda, liquid dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and your favourite essential oil. Of course, the essential oil is not necessary, however, it will help with the odour so I recommend it. I usually use lavender because it has antibacterial properties!

Add all ingredients to a spray bottle then gently spin the bottle so everything can mix.

Then remove all sheets from your mattress and spray the stained areas with your DIY stain remover! And then you will just wait for your mattress to dry. You won’t have to scrub or rub the area – the mixture will do all the work for you! The hydrogen peroxide and the liquid soap will get rid of the stain while the baking soda and essential oil will take care of the odour!

Once the area is completely dry, grab your vacuum cleaner so you can get rid of the baking soda – and that’s it. Your mattress will be spotless without any trace of the pee (and the bad smell)!

How To Clean Your Rusty Cast Iron Pan?

I love my cast iron pan. In fact, I have a few of them because I really like using them. They are also super durable and will last you a long time if you take proper care of them.

However, one downfall of cast iron pans is that they tend to get rusty pretty quickly. Of course, there is a way to avoid this from happening – and I will tell you exactly how to do that but if yours is already rusty then you need to take care of this problem first before you move on to the “preventing” part of the process!

So How To Clean A Rusty Cast Iron Pan?

It’s much more simple than you probably think. You need two ingredients to clean it – a potato and salt.

Cut your potato in half then sprinkle some salt all over the pan. Grab one half of the potato and start scrubbing the pan with it. The salt and the potato work extremely well in removing rust and cleaning your pan in general.

Once you are done, rinse the pan with hot water – avoid using soap!

How To Prevent Rust?

In order to maintain your pan spotless at all times, you need to create a protective layer of the surface. You can do that with olive oil – it’s super simple yet important for taking proper care of your cast iron pan.

Start off with preheating your oven then placing the pan in there for a few minutes so it can be warm. Then take it out, pour a bit of olive oil in there, and spread it evenly with a paper towel. Next, once again place the pan inside your oven for a few hours.

Once you take it out, wait for the pan to cool down and wipe it with a paper towel to remove the excess oil. Repeat these steps twice so you can really coat the surface with the oil – and you are done!

How To Clean Your Bathroom In Under 15 Minutes?

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could clean your bathroom quickly – without wasting any of your free time? What if I told you that I clean my bathroom in under 15 minutes? If you are interested and you want to know how I do it then keep on reading because I share all my secrets in this article!

How To Clean Your Bathroom In Under 15 Minutes?

Now, the first thing I want you to know is that I clean my bathroom once a week – usually, each Monday. That way, there aren’t a lot of impurities and soap scum build-up which are harder to remove. I make sure I keep my bathroom as clean as possible at all times so each week I can easily spend only 15 minutes for the cleaning.

Another tip I have is to gather all of your cleaning supplies and place them in the bathroom so you don’t have to run around searching for different cleaners and sponges while you are cleaning. You simply pile up everything you need and start performing the cleaning! I use a few microfiber cloths, a glass cleaner, a disinfectant (or a bathroom cleaner), baking soda, a toilet cleaner (sometimes I only use vinegar so if you don’t have a toilet cleaner around you then stick to using vinegar, it works great).

I always start with the mirrors. I quickly spray them with my glass cleaner then wipe them with my microfiber cloth.

Then it’s time to cover the sink, the bathtub, the toilet, and the shower. I simply spray everything with my disinfectant then wait a few minutes so it has time to work and actually get rid of all bacteria. A lot of people make the mistake of spraying disinfectant and wiping it immediately which is very wrong. Disinfectants are supposed to be left for a few minutes before wiped so they have time to remove the bacteria.

Then I pour vinegar into my toilet, grab the toilet brush and scrub the walls. Once I am done, I flush!

And just like that, my bathroom is spotless – and I didn’t spend more than 15 minutes cleaning it!

How To Make Scented Vinegar?

Do you enjoy making your own cleaners by simply following the DIY recipes you find on the internet? I know I do, I even consider it a hobby of mine. I enjoy saving money while using natural ingredients and avoiding those commercial cleaners that are packed with harsh chemicals.

One of the most important ingredients that are commonly found in almost any DIY cleaner out there is vinegar. Of course, vinegar is an amazing cleaner and disinfectant that will leave any surface spotless, however, there is one huge downfall – the smell. That horrible scent is probably the reason why so many people avoid making their all-purpose cleaner. Thankfully, today I will teach you exactly how to get rid of that smell – it’s simple!

The Answer Is Scented Vinegar!

If you have tried to add a few drops of essential oils to vinegar you know that this technique doesn’t really work. In fact, it doesn’t work at all and it won’t mask the vinegar smell. What you need to do instead is infuse the vinegar with different herbs and make scented vinegar!

How To Make Scented Vinegar?

Prepare a large mason jar or any other container that has a lid on it. Then, the most important part is to prepare different herbs, citrus peels, and/ or dried flowers. These things will infuse the vinegar with its scent!

I love using mint leaves, orange and lemon peels, as well as fresh rosemary. Picking out what you want the vinegar to smell like is the fun part and you can choose to make any combination! Be creative and have fun with it!

After you decided which herbs and citrus peels you will use, place them in the mason jar then pour as much vinegar as the container will fit. Next, place the lid and leave the jar for a few days so the vinegar has time to infuse. I would suggest waiting 3-4 days but if you aren’t in a rush you can leave it for a week.

How To Clean Your Wooden Spoons?

Having a wooden spoon in your kitchen is a staple – everyone uses them, right? Unfortunately, they are easily damaged and most people throw their wooden spoon and replace it at the first sign of wear and tear.

I have good news – you don’t have to throw your wooden spoons away, you can learn how to clean them properly and take care of them so they last you at least a few years.

Don’t Clean Them In Your Dishwasher

Never attempt to clean your wooden spoons in your dishwasher because the heat and steam will crack the wood and damage the spoon very quickly.

Wooden spoons should be washed by hand after every use which will prevent stains.

Also, don’t soak your wooden spoon in water for a lot of time because the wood will absorb the liquid and will crack once it’s dry.

Get Rid Of Stains

If washing your wooden spoon with warm soapy water doesn’t seem to get the stains out of it then you need to follow these steps:

After washing the spoon, pour salt on the stained area, cut a lemon in half then scrub the spoon. This is also a great way to clean your wooden cutting boards!

If the spoon smells weird then mix baking soda and water, apply it on the spoon and scrub with half a lemon.

How To Use Salt As A Cleaning Ingredient?

Salt is a favourite natural cleaning ingredient of mine – and I use it in all sorts of different DIY cleaner recipes.

I have found ways to use salt as a cleaning product in almost every room in my home – in my kitchen, laundry room, etc.

Are you interested? Do you want to learn how you can use salt to clean your home too? Well, keep on reading!

How To Use Salt As A Cleaning Ingredient?

– Clean the drain in your kitchen: I simply pour salt and hot water down the drain and it’s enough to deodorize it as well as prevent grease from building up!

– Clean the fridge: One of the simplest and most effective fridge cleaners I have ever made contains salt and soda water!

– Clean pots and pans: No one likes cleaning greasy pots and pans, right? What if I told you you could sprinkle salt on them and then wipe with a paper towel after a few minutes could take care of this hated chore?

– Remove blood stains: Simply soak the affected area in cold water and salt for a few hours then wash as usual.

– Remove sweat stains: Sweat stains might be one of the most annoying stains out there! Thankfully, you can mix hot water with salt and remove them quickly!

– Take care of mildew: Mix lemon juice and salt in a spray bottle and spray the mildew. Allow it to sit for a few minutes then rinse and dry.

– Remove water rings from wood: You need to mix vegetable oil and salt (create a paste) then buff out the water rings with it.

How To Clean Your Microfiber Couch?

If you have a microfiber couch or chair then you don’t have to worry about the cleaning because it’s pretty easy to do.

All you need to do is check for the cleaning code/ tag. It should be placed somewhere on the furniture and it will determine the correct cleaning method you need to apply.

  • If there is a W that means it should be cleaned with a water-based cleaner.
  • If there is an S it should be cleaned with a solvent cleaner
  • If there is an S-W that means you can use either a water-based cleaner or a solvent cleaner
  • If there is an X then you shouldn’t use any cleaning product – only vacuum clean the furniture!

Once you determine the cleaning code the rest is easy.

When Using Water-Based Cleaners

If your furniture has the W or the S-W tag then you can use a water-based cleaner. Most cleaners you can buy from the store are indeed water-based. If you don’t want to buy a cleaner you can also clean your microfiber furniture with soapy water!

When There Is A S Code

If the code on your microfiber furniture is S (or there isn’t any code at all) then you shouldn’t use water-based cleaners because they will leave water stains behind and you will eventually damage the furniture.

If that is the case then you can use rubbing alcohol for the cleaning. It’s cheap, gets the job done, won’t damage the surface, and it dries very quickly.

Now, pour the rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray the surface with it. Grab a clean cloth and start blotting the furniture using a circular motion. Repeat as many times as needed.

Once you are done cleaning the furniture grab a soft brush so that you can restore the fluff of the couch/ chair. Gently rub the surface with the brush!

Learn how to remove sharpie from a painted wall!

Finding out your kid marked the walls with a sharpie is such a bad feeling to be honest. You don’t know whether to be mad, to try to clean it off immediately or to cry silently in the corner.

Well, I am here to tell you that removing a sharpie from a painted wall is not hard at all! In fact, it’s quite easy. There are a few cleaning hacks you can follow in order to remove the marks without any issues!

And not, my hacks don’t require paint. As I said we will clean the marks off the wall, not paint the wall!

  • Use Sunscreen

This cleaning hack is honestly a miracle. It’s the easiest way to remove sharpie marks!

Simply spray your sunscreen directly on the stain and wipe with a cloth in a circular motion.

  • Use Toothpaste

A weird hack – I know, but it seems to work. Spread white toothpaste on the stain, leave for 10 minutes, then scrub with a cloth.

– Use Baking Soda

Dampen the abrasive side of a sponge in water, sprinkle some baking soda on it, and start rubbing the affected area using a circular motion.

– Use Nail Polish Remover, Hand Sanitizer, or Rubbing Alcohol

Just like the sunscreen method, this works amazing and I recommend you try it out but don’t forget to wear gloves!

How to determine if a coffee maker needs cleaning?

If you have a coffee maker chances are you are using it on a daily basis which means that you need to clean it from time to time. Maintaining appliances clean have a lot of benefits like better performance and a long lifespan.

The easiest way to determine whether your coffee maker needs cleaning is by the taste of the coffee. Once it becomes bitter and it doesn’t taste right then guess what – it is time that you give this amazing appliance a good deep cleaning.

If you absolutely hate wasting time on cleaning appliances – don’t worry, your coffee maker is really easy to clean!

How to clean a coffee maker?

Obviously, you can’t throw it in the dishwasher nor can you wash it in the sink.

So how to do it? Start with rinsing the carafe and removing any remaining coffee grounds.

Then mix vinegar and water (equal parts) and fill up the water chamber. Start a brew cycle and turn the coffee maker midway. Leave the mixture for an hour so that it can clean and disinfect your coffee maker.

Then run the rest of the cycle. Once it is complete remove the water and vinegar mixture and add clean water to the chamber. Run another brew cycle.

Once you are done with that wipe the exterior of the appliance.

Do cleaning products have an expiration date?

Every household has a wide range of different cleaning products… and a lot of the times they have been sitting on the shelves for a long time. I mean, how often are you actually cleaning your home and how often are you using them? Exactly!

Yes, cleaning products do expire

As weird as it sounds, it is true. Of course, they won’t go bad but they will lose their potency and efficacy.

A great example is a bleach. Every household has a bleach that is open. It’s something that no one uses on a daily basis, therefore, the product simply sits there. You need to throw away bleach six months to a year after you first open it.

Other products that are used as disinfectants will also lose their efficacy over time.

Despite this fact, cleaning products like glass cleaners have a long shelf life – up to two years in some cases.

How should you dispose of an expired cleaning product?

So if a cleaning product has already expired then you need to get rid of it but what is the best way to do it? You need to be careful since there are some toxic formulas out there that you can’t simply pour down the drain.

Usually, a cleaning product will have instructions on the back on how to dispose of it. Make sure you pay attention to those instructions and follow them strictly.

If you want to get rid of several products and it is said that you can safely pour them down the drain you still need to be careful and never mix them. As you know, many cleaning or disinfecting products should never be mixed when cleaning. You should follow those rules when you are disposing of them as well.
